Due to Durham’s collegiate system, the Students’ Union, based in Dunelm House on New Elvet, plays a very different role in the lives of Durham students to that of other universities.  Largely a liaison body between the students and the university, DSU also provides: a good, cheap café, Starbucks, bars, ents, a shop, accommodation office, The Advice Centre and welfare support, a laundrette and publishes the independent student newspaper ‘Palatinate’.
